2008 National Aboriginal Day – Headlining Edmonton

i’m in edmonton, doing shows and workshops and i am humbled. hearing the stories of people, their lives and their experiences, and seeing how those stories affect people, has had a profound effect on me. it’s easy to forget about the importance of personal stories. no matter who you are, your story matters. always.

we don’t need celebrity in our communities. we don’t need famous actors to host ‘gala’ events. we don’t need to perch a select few on pedestals. we need to do that for ourselves, for each other, for our communities, and for our nations. i was blown away by the power of the people that i met. so many stories, successes, and struggles. meegwetch to all those that i met.

i was lucky enough to hang at improvaganza. it was awesome to see some old faces that i knew. the varscona theatre, rapid fire theatre, and the team that puts improvaganza together in edmonton are a true testament to the power of vision and to the possibility of a kick ass comedy venue when the hard work has been put in honestly. i was so blown away by the hospitality and the vibe from these folks.

whyte ave. in edmonton is the closest thing i’ve seen that resembles an ‘open to the public, frat party for retards’, and trust me, i’ve seen alot of ‘cool streets and places to be’ but this one takes the cake. so fucking annoying.

continental breakfasts served by hotels are generally a very bad idea. i learned the hard way.

couchiching first nations (my rez) is having a powwow next weekend (the last weekend in july) and i think you should go
