Ryan McMahon Comedy – October Update

by Ryan McMahon on October 7, 2008 · 0 comments

holy update batman.

so, it’s been awhile, but there is a reason.  i’m breaking up with you.  it’s not you – it’s me.  AND.  i’ve been busy.  there is tons to write about, talk about, bitch about, whine about, sing about, pray about, scream about, fight about, laugh about, BUT, let’s cover the important stuff shall we?

indian and cowboy comedy revue

the new show is set to preview in just two weeks.  the preview show will be a gooder.  for those coming out to the show, don’t expect 100% polished content, or mind blowing bells and whistles.  do expect some really funny material from a whole bunch of people.  the preview show will be our chance to get in the space for the first time, play on that stage, figure out the sound and lights, and overall, try and make people laugh within our show format.  merke and i have been writing quite a bit and there are going to be some pretty awesome things happening at the show and our goal is simple – give winnipeg weekend comedy shows that aren’t your average comedy show.  we’re setting the bar high for ourselves and for others in hopes of creating a really kick ass show for our awesome comedy community to be a part of.  it’s gonna be a gooder.

clarence two toes

i’ve got two new episodes of “the clarence two toes radio show” in the can and they’ll be released at the end of this week.  once the smoke clears and i’m able to touch up the sound a bit i’ll post them.

also, there are pictures of clarence at the nci jam from a couple of weeks ago.  it was awesome to be able to play in front of 2300 people at the centennial concert hall, and by all accounts, there is alot of clarence love out there.  check out the photo gallery here and make sure to poke around.  there are probably 5-6 pages of photos of me and another jock i work with – brian cook.  we ripped the roof off of that place.  hella fun.

AND, in bigger news.  clarence two toes will be your pre-show host of the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards.  i’ll be doing about 20 minutes of comedy before the actual televised portion of the show hits the television.  i’ll also be playing housekeeper to go over the show rules, get people clapping, tell them to sit the hell down or they get a bannock slap, etc.  i guess, clarence is like “the hype man” to a hip hop MC.  i hope clarence is hip hop enough to hype up the crowd.  i’ll be playing in front of a packed MTS Centre and if you want to come out and throw your panties at clarence, keep your heads up for tickets.

AND, in biggish news – clarence two toes now has a column in Urban NDN – a new, independant monthly paper that gives voice to manitoba’s aboriginal populating.  it’s an honour to be a contributor to the paper and i look forward to writing funny stuff in my column, “what brown people like.”  click here to read “what brown people like” in the october edition of Urban NDN.

other stuff you’ll love

  • louis c.k. is going to be in toronto on dec.5 and dec.6.  holy fucking shit.  i’m going.  i can’t tell you how amazing this dude is.  in 3 years he’s made 3 comedy albums/dvds.  for those shitty at math, that’s 1 per year.  the kicker is that they are probably the best comedy albums in the last 20 years.  the guy is a machine and there is no stopping how awesome he is.  and yes, i have a huge man crush.  i’m going to throw my panties at him in toronto.
  • tina fey – i love you.
  • i went to college in minnesota and i have tons of friends that live in the states.  i beg those friends – please tell people not to fucking vote for mcain/palin.  seriously – if those two shit for brains get in the white house – i’m moving to my moose hunting shack to live off the land.  they’ll fuck this continent up way more than it already is.
  • kimbo slice got beat down by a ufc cast away.  this shows a whole bunch of things – the ufc is bad ass and anyone that fights there is equally as bad ass.  other organizations have a long way to go before their ‘stars’ are at the level of the lower level guys of the ufc.  such a good time to be an mma fan.  i was introduced to the ufc back in 1990 when one of my child hood buddies, brad ducharme, got a tape from his dad that was smuggled across the american border.  it was a taped show that played on satellite, the big satellite, ya know the one that was 12 feet tall and 10 feet wide, and it was brutal and amazing.  i was 13 at the time and i remember feeling sick watching guys bleed like that, but also, i knew it was pretty cool.  seeing it come to where it is now is rad.
  • i love fall.
