EP#11 AFN National Chief Shawn Atleo & Musical Guest – Silver Jackson

Posted on 6th February, by Ryan McMahon in RED MAN LAUGHING. No Comments

In this episode I’m honoured to have the chance to have a sit down, featured chat with the Assembly of First Nations National Chief – Shawn Atleo. I wanted to talk with the National Chief to get a chance to get a sense of who he is and what it is that shapes his policy and vision for moving forward as Indigenous Peoples living in Canada. After what was supposed to have been a “historic gathering” with the Crown, I wanted to hear more about the vision & plans around Canada making good on Treaty promises and what a Post-Indian Act Canada might look like.

Musical Guest – Silver Jackson

This weeks musical guest is Silver Jackson (Tlingit/Aleut). From Sitka, Alaska, Silver Jackson is a musical project of visual artist Nicholas Galanin. Silver Jackson has mixed everything from broken blues to lo-fi …

Hystereotypes – Funny Cuz It’s True

Posted on 8th December, by Ryan McMahon in FEATURED POSTS, NEWS. No Comments

Back in April 2011 I had the great pleasure of taking the stage with some of North America’s funniest comics that deal with and take on stereotypes head on in their acts. Tonight on CBC TV (9PM EST) the “Hystereotypes” gala from the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival is on and I can’t help but think what my Kookum (grandma) would have said to me had she been alive to see it…”you look real chubby on tv.”

Stereotypes are hysterical!  Just ask host Jason Priestley and comedians Chris Gibbs, Nile Seguin, Jimmy Tingle, Ryan McMahon, Darcy Michael, and Sherri D. Sutton.  It’s comedy that won’t be pigeonholed.

Produced by FRANTIC FILMS, JASON PRIESTLEY hosts this rip-roaring event – a one-hour television special that features some of the world’s best comedians - DON’T MISS IT!

After a tonne of work, many hours of imagining and re-imagining what my APP would look like – it’s finally here! Together with the awesome people at LIBSYN we’ve come up with a ground breaker!

You can now pick up the “NDN CMDY” app in the iTunes Market Place ($2.99) for iPhone, iPad, iPad 2 and iPod Touch and you can grab the Android version of the APP in the Amazon Market Place ($2.99) for your Android Devices.

Some people have asked about Blackberry – well, let’s just say developing anything for Blackberry takes insane money and skills that I don’t have. There are rumours that the new Blackberry operating systems are going to allow for Android apps to patch over to Blackberry in the near future – so we’ll see.

This was a lot of work – I’ve done my best. …

Posted on 16th August, by Ryan McMahon in RED MAN LAUGHING. No Comments

In this first episode I rant and rave about death and why people lose their minds when celebrities die. A new character, The Powwow Pickup Pimp,  gets introduced and gives his snaggin’ advice. You get to hear a track, my “Rapist Shark” bit, from a live show in Shakopee, MN and in this episode I break down how the podcast is going to roll out over the next few weeks. And finally, the “Life According to Clarence Two Toes” segment this week explores what “the highway” means to us Indians and Clarence Two Toes breaks down a story of lost love at the redneck fair. XMAS LAUGHS WITH RYAN MCMAHON

Posted on 10th November, by Ryan McMahon in NEWS. 1 Comment

Have jokes – will travel.  That’s the message that I’m spreading right now around Indian Country.  Last year, I was booked fairly solid in and around Christmas time – that’s when staff parties and community events get thrown to welcome the holidays with a little bit of laughter.  What was unmanageable though were the last minute requests for shows and the balancing act that came with it.

SO.

If you’re thinking about having some comedy at your event – BOOK NOW.  Traditionally, no – not “spiritually traditionally”, just, ya know, in times past, the beginning of November marks the start of the busy season.  Get your request in and we can go through the booking process.

Here are the steps to booking:

Email me. info at ryan mcmahon comedy dot com.
I’ll email you my phone number and we’ll talk about your event.
